Fire Season Prep and Fuels Reduction

𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻
Spring’s cool and wet conditions make right now the perfect window to start preparing your property for fire season. This is the ideal time to clean up overgrown vegetation, shrubs, and old tree limbs, plus it’s safer and more effective to use equipment like mowers, chainsaws, and hedge trimmers while conditions are still mild.

Both of our fuels dump trailers are available by appointment and ready to make cleanup easy. Here’s how it works:
• We bring the trailer to your property
• Park it where you need it
• You fill it with green vegetation that meets our criteria (we go over what’s allowed beforehand)
• We return to pick it up and dispose of the vegetation for free.

For larger projects, our community woodchipper is another great option. Our trained personnel run the chipper and can process a large volume of material in a short amount of time—fast, efficient, and effective. Unfortunately, we cannot leave the chipper at your site for your use without our personnel to run it.

We also offer wildfire home assessments to all residents. Our team can help you identify what vegetation can stay and what should go, finding that balance between reducing fire risk and keeping your home and property looking nice. 👍

At this time, our collection sites at Dodge Bridge Station and Agate Lake Station remain closed. This year’s availability for dropping fuels at these locations will look different than last year. While we know many residents appreciated that option, our fuels trailers, community chipper, and Risk Reduction Crew are designed to work together to provide strong, flexible alternatives that still support our district.

These programs are funded through remaining grant funds, not our general operating revenue, and we’re working hard to use those funds wisely. There will come a point when those grant funds are expended, but we are always applying, working, and researching more opportunities. That said, our fuels reduction program has been enormously successful over the past several years, and we are hopeful to continue it as long as possible. If our collection sites are able to reopen, it will likely be for a shorter window of time.
